Recently I’ve focused my videos on camping tips and tours. While that is a major part of my life, nothing inspires me more than the story of people. I am intrigued by the people who have a great passion in life. Especially those who prioritize pursuing that passion to such an extent that it becomes their entire life.
These are the stories that inspire me to chase my own passions. These are the stories I want to tell.
Let me begin with the story that is right in front of me: Kendrick and his mountains. Last September I had the honor of supporting him during a mountain traverse that he has long wanted to attempt. So I grabbed my Mom and Rocky, and we set out to follow him around the mountains.
To highly skilled mountain athletes, this route is difficult, but achievable. To the rest of us normal folk, it is…. how should I say? unimaginable. 120 miles. But not just any 120 miles. Imagine climbing 15 very very tall mountains without stopping! Well, that was Kendrick’s passion, and I hope you enjoy the story.
This video is a little longer than my usual, but I wanted to do his story justice and I wasn’t willing to cut it down for time. I promise this will be one of the most interesting 16 1/2 minute YouTube videos you’ll watch!
Vlog #25: Pursuing Your Passion: A Man and the Mountains
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.
-Edward Abbey
- Somewhere around mile 50, legs still holding up.
- Kendrick did a great job collecting selfies and video for documentation. I can only imagine what was going through his mind.
- The first sunrise.
- Roads, trails, and bushwacking. Never a dull moment.
- As much a mental game as it is a physical one.
- Crew stops were key to making sure he had all the gear he needed.
- One of the few times I’d willingly rub his stinky feet!
- He had been begging me for Domino’s Pizza. Finally after 80 miles, he got it.
- After all was said and done, his feet didn’t look tooooo bad!
- The very last image I took of a road-weary Kendrick.
