Winterize Shminterize: Thawing out my T@G Teardrop

I am a list keeper. One of my unintentionally longest lists is “lessons I’ve only had to learn once”. I hate adding to this list as it usually implies something has gone terribly wrong. But I’ll admit it is better than adding to its evil step-list, “lessons I never learn”.

My amazing cousin Lauren to the rescue!

I made the decision to stray from the flock of “snow birds” and spend much of my winter in Colorado. I knew I’d be unable to use my outdoor sink in my T@G during this time, so I planned to winterize her. “Planned” is the key-word here. Allow me to save you the trouble of learning this first hand: Winterize your RV before it freezes, not after.

Winterizing your T@G is actually incredibly simple. There is not much plumbing to worry about. As usual, I’ve documented my (mis)adventures in this video, and added a few of my own personal tips.

  1. Great solution, pus you’re half way there for Bloody Mary’s and Screw Drivers ! 😜💛🌞

  2. Mandy, Vodka may not br a problem but it wouldnt hurt to check with the pump manufacturer to verify that. Some internal seals may not be the proper material to handle alcohol fluids, and even worse, may not be entirely safe to be used in an electrical pump. Vodka is highly flammable and the pump may create small sparks as it rotates. You may be OK but better safe than sorry!

    • Yep I had the same thought! (I do sit and think every now and then) haha. I chatted with them and they didn’t seem to have a problem with it.

  3. Thank you Mandy for sharing. I love the vodka idea. I have a 23’trailer and it would take alot to it to winterize it. Be safe and stay warm my friend.

  4. I have read about using vodka as a winterizing fluid before, but vodka actually can freeze during a Minnesota winter, so I stick to a little bit of the pink stuff, to be safe. I am envious of slightly warmer areas that can use vodka as an alternative. It feels like a greener solution. 🙂

  5. We share the love of photography! My mentor: Frank Houck (see Epcot Center lifetime achievement award).
I think you’d love the world butterfly/birding center (my back yard) for photos. I’d welcome you here and you’d stay warm. Let me know!
